COIMBATORE: The 4km stretch connecting Puliakulam Road and Kamarajar Road via Sowripalayam is badly in need of maintenance and repairs.
Sowripalayam Road and Uppilipalayam Road on the stretch are damaged at several places, causing problems to commuters, who have to negotiate umpteen potholes.
Apart from its commercial value, the stretch also connects residential hubs, said J Arumugasamy, a resident of Varadharajapuram.
“It takes at least five more minutes to pass through the stretch. Corporation authorities should lay a new road,” he told TOI.
V Sujatha, a regular commuter, said that although the road is damaged at several places, potholes at
Rajiv Gandhi Nagar Junction are especially dangerous. “They might lead to accidents, if not repaired. Corporation officials should give top priority to such busy roads used by thousands of commuters,” she said.
East zone chairman Ilakkumi Izhamselvi
Karthik said she raised the issue in the council meeting, but no action was taken. “I followed it up with the officials concerned after receiving several complaints from commuters.”
Meanwhile, a corporation official said a proposal to lay a new road is being processed.
